G Funk or, Gangsta Funk as one may call it, is a very interesting sub-genre of hip hop which emerged in the early 90s. It is very much influenced by the funk culture of the 70s. Remember those catchy bass, nice synths and and cool beats? Yes, G Funk has them. The lyrics? Well, they mostly speak about the streets, enjoying parties and having a great time in general. It has a relaxed style focusing on grooves which is quite the opposite of using aggressive beats. This style absolutely revolutionized the West Coast hip hop culture and blended rap and funk music in a manner that many seemed to relate to.
